EPA Awards City of Chicago New $52,000 Grant to Reduce Carbon Emissions

CHICAGO – The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded the city of Chicago nearly $52,000 to help reduce carbon emissions from garbage trucks.

“The EPA is working with the city of Chicago to upgrade its vehicles and to increase public awareness of problems caused by diesel emissions,” said EPA regional administrator Mary A. Gade in a statement.

The Chicago Department of the Environment and the Chicago Department of Fleet Management received the grant to install parts on 13 trucks that would reduce the amount of diesel emissions while idling.

The EPA’s Midwest Clean Diesel Initiative, which provided funding for the Chicago project, is backed by federal and state government funding as well as non-profit financing.
