BP Moves 1,000 Jobs From Chicago Suburbs to Chicago Mercantile Exchange

CHICAGO – After shopping for a new address, oil company BP has chosen the Chicago Mercantile Exchange complex at 10 and 30 S. Wacker as the new home for its energy trading, supply and marketing operations.

BP intends to move 1,000 jobs from the western suburbs to the city center location, according to a Monday report in the Chicago Sun-Times, and on Monday signed a non-binding letter of intent to lease.

The new location is a historic one for Chicago commerce. The complex consists of two towers connected at the base that previously housed the Merc’s 35,000-square-foot trading floors. Trading, however, has largely been moved to Chicago Board of Trade at LaSalle and Jackson.

BP will occupy about 245,000 square feet, according to reports, including one of the trading floors. The company also considered a building that has yet to be constructed at 601 W. Monroe.
