Boeing in Chicago Scores New Deal With Iraqi Government, Pitching a Second

CHICAGO – Boeing in Chicago announced on Monday it has secured a $2.2 billion sales contract with the government of Iraq to deliver 30 single-aisle 737-800 jets.

Boeing is negotiating a second contract with a $1.64 billion valuation for 10 of its new 787 Dreamliner planes. Reuters says the deal was signed at a ceremony in Baghdad on Monday that was attended by Iraq Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and Boeing commercial airplanes chief Scott Carson. Iraq is trying to spur its commercial airline business.

While the state-controlled Iraqi Airways started to offer some domestic flights several years ago, it is operating with an aged fleet. In addition to building and providing the jets, Boeing will consult with the Iraqi government on constructing and remodeling airports, maintaining planes and training and managing personnel.
